– an ocean literacy initiative –

We are dedicated research group exploring ways to improve ocean literacy through research, education and engagement.

We created Deakin SEA.Ed after recognising the need for Australia to foster an ocean literate society to sustainably manage our ocean resource surrounding our coastline. Children are our future custodians of the ocean which places school education as the perfect environment to begin learning about the ocean. Our research seeks to work towards a national ocean literacy strategy that aligns with the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development Committee’s global needs to create an ocean literate society for all.
